My Name is Bruce
November 30, 2008 – 11:41 pmA few weekends ago I was up in Royal Oak to see a screening of Bruce Campbell’s new movie My Name is Bruce followed by a question and answer session with the man himself.
I think the movie was awesome. Sure, if you get hung up on bad acting, you’re not going to like it. Not that Bruce is a bad actor, but some of the others in the movie were. But what can you ask for with this type of movie?
The Q&A aftewards was pretty sweet. Bruce seems to really enjoy interacting with his fans and even make fun of them a bit. He seemed really personable from an I’m a few hundred feet away kind of way. I wish I would have thought to take a better camera, but there are a few pics up on my Flickr account.
I even have some crappy-quality videos on YouTube:
Scratch that. Seems that the audio in the file that my phone made didn’t translate to YouTube very well. Oh well.

I don’t have the time nor the inclination to keep the website up. It just takes too much time and thought for me to work on it. I’ll continue to post updates, but only when it’s something that really interests me, an event I was involved in, something I really want to comment on and other things of that nature.
That said, for those of you that always checked in here to find interesting things, you have a few options to keep up with what I’m doing…
Google Shared Items
Anytime that I find something interesting in Google Reader from one of the feeds that I read, I share it. You can get that by going here: http://www.google.com/reader/shared/18313743564225203190. Nice URL, eh?
Tumblr
This is where I’ll post random interesting things that I think deserve note. This is probably where most of you will want to go (if you just don’t go to a more interesting website in the first place). It’s easy for me to post things here, which is why it’s good for funny pictures, interesting articles, viral videos and all that sort of thing. For that, go here: http://stratus19rt.tumblr.com/.
FriendFeed
Everything I do, including posts from this website, my Tumblr blog, Flickr account, Google Shared, Digg feed, Delicious, Twitter and more, it all gets fed into my FriendFeed. You can check it out here: http://friendfeed.com/stratus19rt. This is the all-encompassing feed that will get you everything I do online that I share out.
So, I hope that all works for you, because it’s just how it’s going to work.
Wine Review - 2006 Columbia Crest H3 Horse Heaven Hills Washington Cabernet Sauvignon
October 29, 2008 – 11:10 pmSo I’ve decided to do something productive with the blog, and really try to review the wines and beers I come by. Yes, I’ve said this before but maybe now I’ll have some better motivation and keep it going a little longer.
Let’s start with a wine I tried a few weeks ago:
2006 Columbia Crest H3 Horse Heaven Hills Washington Cabernet Sauvignon
The link and the picture of the bottle are the 2005, but you get my drift…
So I thought the nose on this one seemed kind of sweet-smelling and reminded me of one of those potpourri air fresheners from Glade that are better than the stink, but not great. Kind of dirty-smelling, too.
The taste to me was a little bitter at the beginning and really bitter on the aftertaste. Kind of made my tongue tingle a little bit. It tasted a little bit like some chocolate raspberry was in there, but not much.
In general, I don’t think I would try again. And my research after drinking it leads me to believe this one would be better to drink in a few years. With 298374289374928 or so wines out there, I doubt I’ll get back around to purchasing another bottle to wait on.
I give it - on my totally unscientific scale - an 85.
Weather Report
October 27, 2008 – 11:29 pmMicky Dolenz? For real?
October 26, 2008 – 9:39 pmSo I had a pretty interesting weekend. A fun one, too, for the most part.
Friday night I went to the Wings game versus the Atlanta Thrashers with Tiff. I missed going to a game last season, the first season I didn’t go since my first game in ‘86. Saved some money too buy buying the tickets from a reseller on eBay, cutting the cost by more than half.
The Wings played a pretty good game, although in typical Wings fashion they tried to let Atlanta back into the game in the third period. Hossa had two goals, as did Zetterberg, and Cleary put in the empty-netter for the 5-3 victory.
As an added bonus, Ted Lindsay was there signing autographs, but you had to buy his book. For $35, I had to pass. Still good to see a legend, though. $35 seems like a bargain compared to the hat that I wanted with the goal light on top, which was $100. If it had been under $50, I may have bought it, but definitely not at a $100. I may have to see if I can score one on the Interwebs somewhere.
Saturday was the big football game of the season for Michigan State as they took on the much-hated Wolverines. They went into the game as the favorites and ended up pulling off a 35-21 victory, led my Javon Ringer’s 194 yards. Personally for me it’s always a good day when you can beat the A^2 set, but it felt like a big victory this year. Too bad State got beat so bad last week by Ohio State, otherwise they’d be having a great season now.
After we watched the Wings win in a shoot-out Saturday evening, Chuck and I went downtown to the 129 Lounge. It was a typical Saturday, meaning the place was less than 15% filled. Not like you can ever hope for a big crowd anywhere around Monroe except for St. Patrick’s Day and Thanksgiving Eve. Anyhow, we’re sitting there talking and watching the baseball game, and a guy that looks just like Mickey Dolenz walks by us.
Turns out, it was Micky Dolenz! He was in town performing at MCCC. I’ve ran into famous people before in random locations, but a Monkee in Monroe? That’s just weird, unexpected, and totally rad.
Yes, I used the word rad.
I didn’t talk to him or anything, since he pretty much just walked in, paid his tab and off he went. He kind of ignored most people other than one lady that asked for his picture. I don’ think he was being rude or anything, looked like he was just trying to get out of there.
With every good side there tends to be a downside, though, and while a very materialistic downside, my car seems to have had a boo-boo. I’m guessing it happened while we were at the hockey game, but I’m not sure. I was taking out the trash on Saturday, and I saw what appeared to be gray dirt on the bumper. Turns out that’s just the color of the bumper underneath the paint. Somebody seems to have hit me and rubbed off the paint on the corner where it’s now chipping off in flakes reminiscent of the old Acclaim.
Oh well, it was still a good weekend. Seriously, how often do you get to say you saw Micky Dolenz?
MSI Wind
October 23, 2008 – 8:54 pmTonight I’m playing with the MSI Wind, which is a netbook for those of you that don’t keep up with that sort of stuff. I need to figure out if these cheap little suckers are useful for the library, plus since they are the newest portable tech fad, it’s nice to play with one.
Here’s my thoughts. First, the good:
- It’s small and light, and compared to my Latitude laptop, that is friggin’ awesome. It’s on my lap right now and not even burning my legs.
- Runs pretty well even with the smaller processor.
- Nice crisp display even if it is only 1024×600.
And now the bad:
- No middle mouse button. That bugs me when I’m in Firefox.
- The . key and / key are too far to the left. I keep getting the slash when I need the period.
- My eyesight might be too crappy to use it too much.
It’s only my first night using it, so I may come up with more good and bad later, but for now I’m going to read my feeds and my normal “stuff” and see how it works out.
Oh… I make more typos on the 92% size keyboard.
Nickelback on Three Stations
October 21, 2008 – 7:23 pmI was on the way home from Josh’s (after my 3.6 mile walk btw) and on 101.1 the WRIF was Nickelback.
I changed it to 104.7, and it was Nickelback.
Changed it to 89x, and it was Bush…
Naw, just kiddin’. It was Nickelback.
Thank you 93.9 The River (is that what it’s called these days, I hardly listen to it) for saving me and playing a little Temple of the Dog. Not that I don’t like Nickelback, but I’m not really into hearing their songs for the five millionth time on the radio.
I am a little sad though that Temple of the Dog is now on the 93.9 playlist. I’m getting old.

October 16, 2008 – 10:17 pmRemember when fights like this happened every game?
Sigh…
Wings thus far
October 16, 2008 – 9:55 pmSo I’m sitting here watching the Wings (and more precisely watching them scoop Stuart off the ice) and I’m thinking they don’t look so hot yet this season.
Yes, I realize the season just started, but they haven’t impressed me yet. Except Holmstrom. That dude has managed to get his stick in all the right places (that’s what she said) and is on pace for an 82 goal season. If that happened, I’d probably literally poop my pants.
But really, I’m just not seeing it. I think they just need to flood that first line and put Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Hossa together. Or, perhaps move Hossa down with Flippula and Franzen and put Zetterberg back on the first line. Basically what I’m saying is get Datsyuk and Zetterberg back together.
Obviously this can’t happen until they put Zetterberg’s groin back together or whatever it is they do in these situations. How manf of these guys are out with groin injuries? Have they ever heard of stretching?
Anyhow, I’m a little worried. Their play has looked anything but dominating, and Ozzie is a good goalie but not great enough to win us a game on his own. The skaters need to get their act together.
Brunnstrom scores 3 goal in NHL debut - NHL - Yahoo! Sports
October 16, 2008 – 12:03 amOK so it may have been bad that the Wings didn’t push to get this guy just a little bit harder…
Brunnstrom scores 3 goal in NHL debut - NHL - Yahoo! Sports
DALLAS (AP)—Fabian Brunnstrom scored three goals in his NHL debut to match the league record, Mike Modano had two goals and the Dallas Stars beat the Nashville Predators 6-4 on Wednesday night for their first victory of the season.
Good grief…
October 15, 2008 – 11:00 pmIt just gets worse.
The Debate
October 15, 2008 – 10:24 pmI sat down in my home office tonight with the thought of watching the debate while I got some maintenance done on all my computers, but I’ve found myself not really interested in their cat-fighting. Really I don’t even know why I watch when I’ve already made up my mind on my vote.
I’m not sure if it’s my bias or not, but it seems like McCain keeps looking like a dumb, grumpy old man (which I realize he is but that’s not my point) and Obama looks like an intelligent and easy-going guy. How can people vote for McCain?
Worse yet, how can people not vote for Obama because of this made-up crap that he’s a terrorist or a muslim? Are people that stupid?
Don’t answer that.
